Bauhaus – The Face of the 20th Century, written and narrated by Frank Whitford, is an art documentary that showcases the visual science that arose from the outflow of the avant-garde ideas of this innovative educational venture.

Zwischen 1919 und 1933 war Dresden eine lebendige Großstadt mit vielen Planungs­vorhaben und Baustellen. Der Elan der 1920er Jahre, die neuen Impulse durch die Demokratie und die Technik­faszination führten deshalb hier zu einer beson­deren Mischung, in der Modernität eine Vielfalt architek­tonischer und städte­baulicher Formen annehmen konnte – keines­wegs nur die der Weißen Moderne.

Die Architektur als eine kulturelle Ausdrucksform der Genossenschaftsidee ist bislang nur selten thematisiert worden. Anhand beispielhafter Bauten in Deutschland wird das Moderne in der Architektur von Genossenschaften dargestellt und ein Überblick zur Genossenschaftsgeschichte gegeben.
