The New National Gallery

The New National Gallery in Berlin is a construction of the century by the architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. In 1968 she was opened shortly after his death. Almost fifty years later, director Ina Weisse went on a search for traces in the days of the construction of that unique structure. She is the daughter of the architect Rolf Weisse, who worked at the time in the office of Mies van der Rohe in Chicago. In numerous interviews with her father Rolf Weisse, Mies van der Rohe's grandson Dirk Lohan, the restructuring architect David Chipperfield and many other personalities, Ina Weisse explores the question of how the Neue Nationalgalerie came into existence and what a worldview in Mies van der Rohe's building is expressed. In addition to Ina Weisses' interviews and spectacular film footage of the Museum's excerpt from his building, the film also contains previously unreleased films from the 1960s that Rolf Weisse filmed in the office of Mies van der Rohe.
