The three cities Hagen, Essen and Krefeld are closely linked to one another due to their cultural history before the Bauhaus era. Hagen was the place of activity of the founder of the Folkwang Museum and patron Karl Ernst Osthaus After Osthaus’ premature death in 1921, his art collection was relocated to Essen, while his collection of designs found a new home in Krefeld.
The Grand Tour of Modernism Thuringia
The Bauhaus comes from Thuringia and has left a number of traces in a multitude of locations throughout the state. From here, it went on to conquer the world and, with its functional design, it has continued to make its mark on our living rooms right through to the present day.
The Grand Tour of Modernism takes shape
On the 9th and 10th of January 2018, a meeting of the jury for the Grand Tour of Modernism took place in Weimar. The goal was to choose, from among more than 460 proposals, the places in Germany that will constitute this route celebrating the Bauhaus Centenary.
