Newsletter content

We only send newsletters, emails and other electronic information notifications (hereinafter “newsletter”) with the consent of the recipient or legal permission. If, when subscribing to the newsletter, the newsletter’s content is specifically described, this shall serve as the basis for the user’s consent. For the rest, our newsletters contain news relating to the company’s 100th birthday, e.g. event information, tips from member states, or new media/services.

Double opt-In and data logging

Subscribing to our newsletter involves a “double opt-in” process, i.e. after subscribing, you are sent an email asking you to confirm your subscription. This confirmation is required in order to prevent anyone else from subscribing using external email addresses.

The newsletter subscriptions are logged to ensure the subscription process can be proven in accordance with the legal requirements. This includes storing the time of the subscription and confirmation, and the IP address.

Use of the mailing service provider MailChimp

The newsletter is sent via  MailChimp, a newsletter mailing platform run by US provider Rocket Science Group, LLC, 675 Ponce De Leon Ave NE #5000, Atlanta, GA 30308, USA.

The email addresses of our newsletter recipients, as well as their additional data described in this notice, are stored on the MailChimp servers in the USA. MailChimp uses this information to send and analyse the newsletters on our behalf. MailChimp may, according to its own information, also use this data to optimise or improve its own services, e.g. to technically optimise newsletter mailing or display, or for financial purposes, in order to determine the countries the recipients are from. MailChimp does not, however, use our newsletter recipients’ data to contact said recipients directly or share the data with third parties.

We trust MailChimp’s reliability, IT security and data security. MailChimp is certified under the US-EU Privacy Shield, and thus commits to upholding the EU data protection regulations. We have also concluded a data-processing agreement with MailChimp. This is a contract in which MailChimp commits to protecting our users’ data, processing it on our behalf in accordance with its privacy regulations, and, in particular, not sharing it with third parties. Statistical collection and analyses

The newsletters contain a “web beacon”, i.e. a pixel-sized file retrieved by the MailChimp server when the newsletter is opened. During this retrieval process, technical information, such as information on the browser, your system, your IP address and the time of the retrieval, are initially collected. This information is used to technically improve the services based on the technical data, the target groups and their reading behaviour, the retrieval locations (identifiable using IP addresses) or access times.

The statistical data collections also include determining whether the newsletters are opened, when they are opened, and which links are clicked. While this information may be linked to individual newsletter recipients for technical reasons, it is neither our nor MailChimp’s intention to monitor individual users. The analyses instead help us identify our users’ reading habits and adapt our content to them, or to send different content based on our users’ interests.

Online retrieval and data management

There are cases in which we redirect the newsletter recipients to MailChimp’s websites, e.g. our newsletters contain a link through which the newsletter recipients can retrieve the newsletters online (e.g. if the email program has problems displaying it). Newsletter recipients may also correct their data, e.g. email address, later on. The MailChimp privacy policy is similarly only available on the MailChimp site.

In this context, we wish to advise that MailChimp’s websites use cookies, meaning personal data is processed by MailChimp, its partners and its service providers (e.g. Google Analytics). Cancellation/Revocation

You may cancel your newsletter subscription, i.e. revoke your consent, at any time. This will also void your consent to statistical analyses and MailChimp mailings. It is unfortunately impossible to cancel the MailChimp mailings and statistical analysis separately.

Communication by e-mail

Communication by e-mail can entail security risks. E-mails sent to the Bauhaus Cooperation can be intercepted and read by savvy Internet users. Should the Bauhaus Cooperation receive an e-mail from you, it is assumed that the staff are entitled to reply by e-mail. Alternatively, you may wish to consider another mode of communication (e.g., by post).
